Up-cycled Cat Bed…

kittencrafts_catbed

A while back I scored an awesome vintage leather suitcase from my wonderful neighbor and set about making this…

I wanted a cute cat bed and, well, what’s available here in the land of Swiss is either boring or really, really expensive, so after consulting with my mate Google I decided to have a go at making my own.

With the suitcase part sorted, I logged onto my other mate, eBay, and ordered the legs for my new creation, then trawled my fave Charity Shop for miniature pictures to decorate it with.

Once my legs arrived, I painted them and, as they had to be attached with giant screws, got out my power tools and drilled some holes in the bottom corners of my suitcase and screwed them in.

The blanket is one the kitties have been using for a while, so that was easy, it’s just a fluffy baby blanket I bought for them at a discount store. I tried putting a pillow in the suitcase but the kitties weren’t having any of it so I tossed the pillow and just put their blanket in and they LURVE it!

I painted all my picture frames the same color as my legs and used my trusty hot glue gun to glue them in place.

The little black cat toy is also from the charity shop, which reminded me of their mum, so of course that’s in there too 🙂 and because the pocket the toy is in had lost its elastic, I wove some mustard colored ribbon through it to tighten it up a bit.

And last of all, the bunting at the top is from my stash of crafty bits, but I think I got that on eBay originally too…

All in all, their new bed ended up costing me about 15 CHF, (roughly the same in US $) thanks, of course to the suitcase being donated but I have since managed to find some similar ones at random charity shops for around 15-20 CHF.

Total bargain, and so, so cute! And even better, now my shadow kitty, Nennie, has somewhere to sleep in my craft room 😀

Kitty Magnets… :)

How awesome are my new kitty magnets?

The incredibly talented Noelle from Hold My Broom made these from some photos I emailed her of my two little princesses ( you can get your hands on some through her Etsy shop here) and I am totally in love with them 😀

They have pride of place on our fridge – you know, because having the actual kitties isn’t enough, I had to have magnets made of them too … yeah, yeah, I’m a crazy cat lady now, what are you gonna do, huh?

Anywhoo, you all should definitely check out her blog and her shop, she makes some amazing stuff!!

Building Ladders….

kittencrafts_catladder

The hubby and I spent Saturday building a new cat ladder for our two little princesses… They didn’t much like version 1.0, which was a thinner bit of wood with no mesh over the top.

Version 2.0 is MUCH more successful! Not to mention much safer for our fur kids to use.

Neither hubby or I are very ‘handy’ but this was actually a piece of cake! The hardest thing about building it was sawing all the steps as we only had an old school hand saw to use, and seeing as hubby’s back isn’t great at the moment I did most of the sawing 😦 Guess who had a really sore arm that night?

But it’s done, and it works, and it was super easy to make so I’m rather chuffed!

Since we put it up we’ve been trying to get them to use it… Grace, our braver grey kitty had it down that night… it helps that she LOVES tunnels, so this is just a new tunnel for her to play in 😀 (she’s the grey blob in front of Nennie)

Nennie, our somewhat less brave (complete scaredy cat!!) grey and white kitty has yet to master it. This pic is the ONE time she has been in it, and that’s as far as she got before reversing back into the apartment 😦

Ah well, I’m sure she’ll get it eventually… it did take her 3 weeks more to venture into the garden than it took Grace so I guess she’s just naturally more cautious.

It’s so funny how they are sisters and polar opposites! Grace takes months to get to know and trust people – it took her 4 months to let hubby pat her properly and almost double that with me, but she will go off and explore places and get into trouble with the other cats in our street without backing down – even though she is the smallest cat on our street!

Nennie on the other hand, loves people. She’ll let anyone pat her, and she’ll happily snuggle on any available lap. She follows us around the apartment and calls when she can’t find us until we answer her, but she is so cautious of new places and new things it’s crazy.

Lucky I love both of them like crazy!

Fingers crossed that Nennie gets the hang of it soon. poor thing had been cooped up indoors since the weekend 😦

Keeping busy…

There have been too many things lately that have kept me from crafting to my heart’s content…

Work is busy – being summer and all, everyone is getting married and wants photos of their weddings, which is awesome, but also means that my time is spent working on those weddings…

For the last couple of weeks I’ve been busy making slide shows for our wedding couples which means loads of this…

and not so much crafty goodness… or blogging 😦

Then Nennie, one of our kitties, came home with a giant foot…

kittencrafts_nenniefoot

We have no idea what happened to her, she was fine in the morning then went out for a couple of hours and came back like this… so the afternoon was spent checking her paw for cuts, stingers, insects, wounds etc. etc. and watching her to see if she was walking on it (yes), eating (yes), was lethargic (she’s a cat, so yes).

We tried calling our vet but he’s on holidays, so we had to call the emergency vet’s :/ They basically told us to keep an eye on her and if she started limping, having trouble breathing, not eating or just being off to call them and bring her in.

Nennie didn’t have a clue what the fuss was about and settled down for a nap and when she woke up had some dinner and went back out again. When she came back a couple of hours later her foot was back to normal, thankfully, and she was still her normal crazy self, begging for snacks, chasing moths on the balcony and rolling over for tummy rubs, so we figured she was fine… which is more than I can say for me! Being the stress head that I am I was already planning to take her to the vet’s in the morning.

Then this morning I opened up WordPress on my iPad and had a lovely surprise! My little blog has 101 followers now – which is AMAZING!! I still can’t quite believe it.

And the postman came with some eBay goodies, including a load of lovely washi tape and some super cute birdie buttons 😀

kittencrafts_stash20714Oh, and I almost forgot – a friend of mine told me about a discount store over the border in France last week so I convinced the hubby we just HAD to go check it out 😀 Lucky for me we did cos I came home with more STASH!!

My new stash hasn’t been touched yet, I’ve been too busy working, but I think I’m going to remedy that right now and go make something!
